Amazing Grace: why I started a blog

Hello Sunshine!

I hope you are doing alright and being as safe as possible in these crazy times.

I want to officially welcome you to my blog, a space created for and with you. If you are reading this first post, I want to say thank you. You have no idea how much it means to me to have you here.

I’m going to let you into my world through this website in a way I haven’t done with anyone before.

So to kick this off, I wanted to make this first post to tell you about why I started a blog and who will be writing to you, as well as what you’ll find on this website.

Who is Amazing Grace?

I promise I won’t bore you with a long autobiography about who I am, likes, dislikes, and hobbies. I think you’ll find a lot about those things as we make our way through this blog.

For now, all you need to know is that, yes, I am Grace. I am a regular twenty-four-year-old girl navigating her way into adulthood and trying to find herself in the process.

Why I started a blog?

To be honest, this is something I’ve wanted to do for years. I don’t want to continue silencing my voice and thoughts as I’ve tended to do in the past.

A few years ago, I discovered writing was one of the easiest ways for me to be my most genuine self. So I started a blog last year. I thought it would be a piece of cake to share bits of myself with others, to put them out here for the rest of the world to read.

I was wrong.

This past year I’ve realized there were certain things I wasn’t ready to share, demons I wasn’t prepared to face, and fears I didn’t feel I could conquer.

I still feel like I can’t handle this massive leap of faith and get started with a blog. However, I am willing to try one more time and commit because perseverance moves mountains.

Here I am again, opening my world to everyone willing to read and walk this journey with me.

Why Amazing Grace?

I don’t know if you are wondering why I chose Amazing Grace as a name for this blog (I hope you are!), but I’m going to tell you anyway.

During summer 2018, I met and lived with wonderful people who became some of the most important ones in my life. Those people found it natural to call me Amazing Grace, and ever since, it has stuck. I think they saw me for whom I was, but also as whom I could be.

Part of me feels I owe it to them to be as amazing as they believed me to be. Yet I also know I owe it to myself to be that woman I once dreamed I would be.

Every one of us is amazing, but I believe we sometimes forget or lose ourselves for a while. That’s what happened to me, and I’ll tell you more about it in later posts. I can say I forgot who I am and my dreams. Also ignored my inner voice, pushed away my feelings, and stopped expressing what was really on my mind.

I hit rock bottom… but I’ve decided it is time to stop.

Why I started a blog

Therefore, I started a blog about self-discovery and self-care. That’s what Amazing Grace is all about. I want to share this journey with you in hopes you’ll find yourself if, like myself, you’ve realized you’ve lost your way.

Now that I’ve told you what AG is going to be about, how about we break it up in sections?

What is AG’s Journal?

Here you’ll find pieces of myself to help you get to know me better if you feel like it. It’ll be a way for me to reflect on things that have been circling my mind for a while.

It’s going to be a personal spot in this blog, which you are more than welcome to read through.

What about AG’s Self-Care Guide?

Here is where we’ll talk about different ways of taking care of ourselves.

I’ll share with you every action I’ve taken to improve my relationship with myself. You’ll find routines I’ve made, habits I’ve started or broken, and hobbies I’ve discovered, among other things.

We’ll talk about healthy eating habits with the help of a close friend of mine, whom I’ll introduce to you in later posts.

I’ll also share with you podcasts, TED Talks, articles, and all kind of informative things which I have found useful through my journey.

And last but not least… AG’s Bookish Corner

This is probably the section of my blog I’m the most excited about, and I hope to get it right.

Books have been a massive part of my life because they’ve helped me ease my mind when I’m going through difficult times. Even if there are times in which I don’t find in me the strength to pick up a book, when I manage to do it, everything is better.

I’ll share with you some of my favorite ones, lists of books I’ve found helpful, and titles and authors that fill my wish lists. Plus, I’ll make a quote jar with my favorite quotes from the books I’ve read to share with you in posts.

I hope you’ll find something useful in this section which I love so much already.

There’s an extra!

Before I wrap this up, let me tell you about AG’s Playlist. On the sidebar, you’ll find my Spotify playlist with some of my favorite songs. I’ll try to keep it as updated as possible for you. Because music is a great company when you are trying to find your way or put words to your thoughts and feelings, I’ve decided to add this part. I encourage you to send me songs you think I might like to expand this playlist!

Lastly, don’t forget to follow me on social media so we can connect and talk about the things you’d like to see in Amazing Grace.

Why I started a blog

Dear Sunshine, I know how scary and lonely it can get when we hit bumps in the road that turn out to be deep holes that get darker and colder the more we fall. But we are not alone.

I hope you’ll find something you like in this blog. Remember you can always subscribe to AG’s newsletter, so you don’t miss any updates, and together we can all be #AmazingwithAG.
